Keyan Rundell Arrested in Citadel Cadet Dustin Rose Shooting

Authorities in Florida have taken a teenage suspect into custody in connection with a double homicide that left a Citadel cadet and his childhood friend fatally shot.

The DeLand Police Department said the 17-year-old was arrested on two counts of second-degree murder.

According to officials, the suspect was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, were last captured on surveillance footage walking along a sidewalk at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.

Police said the two young men were discovered dead the following day in a vacant lot in downtown DeLand.

At a news conference Wednesday, authorities said the victims and the arrested teenager “knew each other in some capacity.” Officials also described the 17-year-old as having a “pretty good criminal history.”

Rose, a student at The Citadel Military College of South Carolina, had been home on break as he worked toward his longtime goal of serving in the military.

He had recently joined the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Police say the suspect was considered “armed and dangerous” and urged the public not to approach him, but instead call 911.

According to Florida state law, it’s possible for the teen to be charged as an adult once he is arrested.

A prosecutor can decide whether a minor will be tried as an adult, depending on the offense.

It was not immediately clear if the teen would be charged as an adult in this case.
