Suns Keep Dillon Brooks’ $73M Extension Through 2029-30

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has agreed to a three-year, $73 million contract extension that runs through the 2029-30 season, agent Mike George of Klutch Sports told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

Brooks, widely credited with helping reshape the Suns’ identity, is coming off the strongest season of his nine-year NBA career. He averaged a career-best 20.2 points, along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists, for a surprising 45-win Phoenix team that reached the playoffs and largely kept its core intact during the offseason. Along with retaining Brooks, the Suns signed Collin Gillespie, Mark Williams and Jordan Goodwin to multiyear deals while also adding Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard.

Under coach Jordan Ott, Brooks has emerged as a central piece of Phoenix’s physical, two-way approach, and the Suns moved to secure him with a fully guaranteed long-term contract. Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein and general manager Brian Gregory spent recent weeks negotiating with George on an agreement designed to keep Brooks in Phoenix and prevent him from reaching free agency in 2027.

Owner Mat Ishbia made keeping the roster together a priority, even if it meant pushing the franchise back into the luxury tax as the Suns look to build on last season with both returning players and new additions. Ishbia made his stance on Brooks clear in January after a post on X suggested a possible trade sending Brooks to the Los Angeles Lakers for Austin Reaves. “Don’t bother calling… Suns aren’t interested. Dillon’s not going anywhere,” Ishbia wrote.

Phoenix acquired Brooks from the Houston Rockets last offseason as part of the Kevin Durant trade. The 30-year-old appeared in 56 games, missing 18 after fracturing his left hand during a February win over the Orlando Magic. He returned on March 31 and became one of the Suns’ most important postseason performers, averaging a team-high 26 points while shooting 43.8% from 3-point range despite Phoenix being swept 4-0 by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round.

A playoff participant in five of the past six seasons, Brooks has built his reputation as a defensive agitator who embraces difficult assignments. His impact was especially clear on a Phoenix defense that climbed from 27th in 2024-25 to ninth last season, with Brooks serving as the Suns’ primary wing stopper.
