Lindsay Clancy Lawyer Rages Over Shut Her Up Hot Mic Slip

A tense moment in the trial of Lindsay Clancy drew fresh scrutiny Friday after her defense attorney said a prosecutor was picked up on a microphone saying, “Shut her up,” as Clancy cried during the display of autopsy photos of her infant son.

Defense lawyer Kevin Reddington raised the issue with the court after a break, telling the judge he needed to address what he described as a troubling incident in the high-profile Massachusetts case.

Judge William Sullivan suggested the matter be discussed at sidebar, despite the jury not yet having returned to the courtroom.

Reddington resisted the private conference, saying, “I don’t want to go to sidebar. I really don’t want to go to sidebar,” as proceedings continued in the case against Clancy, the 35-year-old former labor and delivery nurse and mother accused of fatally strangling her three young children with exercise bands.

“They got picked up on a hot mic saying ‘Shut her up,’ during the playing of the autopsy,” Reddington told the court, referring to the alleged remark made Thursday.

It was not immediately clear who Reddington believed the comment was directed toward.

The alleged remark came as medical examiner Dr. Kimberly Springer testified and jurors were shown autopsy images of Clancy’s 8-month-old son, Callan — a moment that prompted Clancy to sob and wail audibly in court.

“I just want to find out what the issue is,” Judge Sullivan responded. “There are a lot of privileged issues.”

Then the lawyers all went to sidebar.

Clancy’s lawyers claim she was in the throes of a psychotic postpartum episode when she killed her little kids.
