A Wisconsin mother is facing homicide and neglect charges after authorities found her 3-week-old son pale and with a dark substance around his mouth, then later learned she had allegedly breastfed him after smoking methamphetamine days earlier, law enforcement said.

Jessie Lee Kittelson, 23, has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide, chronic neglect of a child resulting in death, and possession of methamphetamine, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Taylor Jae Olson, 26, is facing the same set of charges.

During an interview with investigators, Kittelson allegedly admitted she used meth throughout her pregnancy, smoked the drug three days before the baby was found, and breastfed the child, authorities said. Olson allegedly told investigators that he obtained the meth used by both him and Kittelson, according to law enforcement.

Kittelson told investigators she had “pumped and dumped” her breast milk for 48 hours and had fed her son milk she previously stored while she was “clean,” the sheriff’s office said. She allegedly appeared unsure how the infant could have been exposed to meth, though court documents said she had searched online for how long meth remains in breast milk.

An autopsy later concluded that the baby died from methamphetamine toxicity, according to the local TV station.

Kittelson and Olson are scheduled to make their initial court appearance on Sept. 2.
