Marc Jacobs Faces Backlash for Saying He’d Dress ‘Trendsetter’ Luigi Mangione at Murder Trial

Marc Jacobs is facing backlash after saying he would be willing to dress Luigi Mangione if the 28-year-old goes on trial in state court over the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The 63-year-old fashion designer made the eyebrow-raising remark during a polygraph segment tied to a recent Vanity Fair interview.

During the exchange, the interviewer pointed out that Jacobs’ designs have previously appeared in courtrooms on high-profile figures such as Lil’ Kim, Courtney Love and Winona Ryder. He was then asked whether he would consider styling Mangione as well.

Jacobs answered, “Yes,” before adding that Mangione already has a strong sense of presentation. “I think he looks pretty good the way he dresses,” he said when pressed on what kind of look he might choose.

The conversation went a step further when Jacobs was asked about Mangione’s unexpected influence on fashion. After being told that Nordstrom reportedly sold out of burgundy sweaters following Mangione’s 2024 arraignment appearance in a similar style, Jacobs agreed with the suggestion that he had become something of a fashion “trendsetter.”

The comments quickly ignited debate across social media, where users responded with everything from mockery to outright anger.

“Marc Jacobs’ net worth is ~$200M, and he’s out here stumping as a pretend anti-capitalist, pro socialism, pro murder ding dong,” one X user wrote.

“Hopefully he’ll never have a loved one shot in the back by a deranged killer,” added another X user.

“Maybe Marc Jacobs of the global luxury brand Marc Jacobs hasn’t fully considered the idea of random people killing off wealthy businessmen,” wrote a third user.

Representatives for Mr. Jacobs did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
