Inset: Robin N. Jackson (Delaware County Jail). Background: The Indiana neighborhood where the alleged attack took place.
An Indiana woman, 41, is facing a string of criminal charges after authorities say she helped set up a brutal attack on a man who was asleep in bed, allegedly waking him with a kick before two assailants beat him so severely he suffered a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and a deep laceration near his eye.
Robin Naomi Jackson was arrested and charged with burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both felonies, along with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, possession of methamphetamine, residential entry and neglect of a dependent, according to court records.
Court documents obtained by The Star Press say Jackson arrived at a residence in the 800 block of North Jefferson Street with two male companions, one of whom investigators believed was her juvenile son. The victim told police he had been sleeping when Jackson abruptly kicked the side of his bed and woke him.
“I told you your a— whooping was coming,” Jackson allegedly told him, according to Fox affiliate WXIN.
Investigators say Jackson then directed the two males to attack. The victim reported that the men first punched him, then escalated the assault by “kicking and stomping him in the head, face and ribs.”
The beating allegedly left the man gasping for air. After he fell to the floor with “a large amount of blood coming from his face,” one of the attackers reportedly said the victim needed an ambulance.
“He doesn’t need a f—ing ambulance,” Jackson allegedly responded, according to WXIN.
Officers responding to the home found the victim bleeding heavily from his face and having difficulty walking. Police also reportedly found a “fair amount” of blood inside the residence.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where the staff determined he had suffered a collapsed lung, several broken ribs, a large laceration near his left eye socket and a broken tooth.
The victim said he believed the attack stemmed from a previous dispute between Jackson and his wife. He claimed that about a month before he was attacked, Jackson had choked his wife with so much force that it put her in the hospital.
Police arrested Jackson during a traffic stop at Granville and Centennial avenues the following day. A young child was in the back of Jackson’s truck when she was arrested; the child had allegedly also been brought to the home during the assault, according to WXIN.
Jackson was booked into the Delaware County Jail. She remained in detention Friday afternoon on an $18,000 bond, records show. She is scheduled to appear for her initial hearing Aug. 28.
The two men accused of participating in the beating had not been arrested or publicly identified as of Friday afternoon.
