A North Carolina doctor was arrested on Aug. 22 after authorities say he opened fire on a Jeep during an interstate road rage encounter in Virginia, injuring two sisters, ages 12 and 20, according to Virginia State Police.
Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, 61, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was traveling north on Interstate 77 in a Mercedes-Benz at about 8:50 a.m. when the shooting occurred roughly three miles north of the North Carolina-Virginia state line.
In a news release, state police said Arriviello allegedly fired into the moving Jeep, with the gunfire striking both sisters in the legs.
The two victims were flown to a hospital for treatment of injuries police described as not life-threatening.

After the shooting, Arriviello allegedly drove away in his Mercedes-Benz, police said.
Virginia troopers later located the Mercedes-Benz about 15 miles from the scene, conducted a traffic stop and arrested Arriviello.
Arriviello is now facing multiple felony charges, including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, maliciously causing bodily injury to another person with intent to maim, and using a firearm while committing a felony.

Arriviello remains jailed without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail, officials told News Outlet. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 29.
State police have not said what led to the alleged road rage encounter or whether investigators recovered a firearm from Arriviello’s Mercedes-Benz.
The Jeep’s driver was also cited for reckless driving, but authorities did not identify the driver.

North Carolina Medical Board records show Arriviello has been licensed as an emergency medicine physician in the state since 2010 and has no public disciplinary actions listed against him.
The records list Arriviello as the owner of Family Urgent Care in Monroe.
