GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Laquentin Rodigques Johnson Jr., 19, of Newberry, was arrested yesterday after police say he sold a stolen PlayStation 5 to a pawn shop.
According to a Gainesville Police Department officer, a doorbell camera recorded two suspects forcing their way into an apartment at an undisclosed location at 5:47 p.m. on August 1. Police reported that “numerous” items were taken from the apartment, including a PlayStation 5.
Two days later, on August 3, a PlayStation 5 was pawned for $125. During the transaction, Johnson reportedly provided his driver’s license, thumbprint, and signature, certifying that the console belonged to him and had not been stolen.
Pawn shop employees later powered on the PS5 and confirmed that the profile and account on the system belonged to the person who had reported it stolen. A sworn complaint was then filed for Johnson’s arrest, followed by a warrant issued on August 7. He was arrested on August 24.
Johnson has been charged with dealing in stolen property and providing false information in a pawn transaction. Court records show he has juvenile convictions from 2022 and 2023 but no adult criminal convictions. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $50,000.
