A West Virginia woman entrusted with caring for a newborn who later died has been ordered to serve time in prison.

Taylor Flint, 25, pleaded guilty in July to child neglect resulting in death in connection with the October 2025 death of an 11-day-old baby boy. Flint had been caring for the infant while his mother remained hospitalized recovering from childbirth. Prosecutors said that on Oct. 25, 2025, Flint brought her 3-year-old daughter along to the home despite knowing the child had a history of aggressive behavior.

Later that morning, Flint discovered the newborn unresponsive in his bassinet.

According to the Mason County prosecuting attorney, Flint changed her plea to guilty on July 14. On Monday, she was sentenced to three to 15 years behind bars, followed by 20 years of probation. The court also ordered Flint to be added to a child abuse and neglect registry.
