Federal police officers who were called to the station detained the suspect shortly after the stabbing, officials said.

Investigators described the suspect as a German national from the nearby district of Fürstenfeldbruck.

Authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the suspect, citing German privacy laws. Police said they are still working to determine the circumstances of the attack and a possible motive.

Investigators appealed for witnesses to come forward, asking in particular whether anyone saw “an argument or a physical altercation” at the station during the late-night hours from Saturday into Sunday.
