A Georgia driver accused of street racing had the accelerator in his Mercedes “fully depressed” and reached 94 mph moments before crashing into a couple who were out running errands, killing their unborn baby, authorities said.
Dorin Lupas, 33, is facing charges of first-degree feticide by vehicle and two counts of serious injury by vehicle. He is also charged with misdemeanor racing and reckless driving.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. on June 20 along Satellite Boulevard in Duluth. Symeon Izaguirre and his wife, Samantha Izaguirre, who was roughly six months pregnant, were on their way to a shopping plaza when they were struck.
“That couple was just attempting to make a left turn into a business plaza off of Satellite Boulevard, just going about their day as any normal citizen would on the roadway,” Gwinnett County police Officer Brock Marks told local ABC affiliate WSB.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, police say Lupas had been stopped at a traffic light in a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Witness accounts and vehicle data indicated that when the light turned green, he loudly revved the engine and accelerated away.
“His acceleration pedal was depressed for three seconds and he hit a maximum speed of 94 mph,” officers wrote in the affidavit.
The posted speed limit on that stretch of road was 45 mph.

Meanwhile, the Izaguirres were entering the plaza in their Mini Cooper.
“Out of nowhere, when we were turning, a car just comes,” Symeon Izaguirre said in an interview with Atlanta News First. “I remember my wife seeing it first and then her just saying, ‘Babe,’ and she braced herself and she put herself on me, and then we got hit pretty hard.”
Samantha Izaguirre suffered broken legs and arms. But the most serious blow was the loss of her baby boy, who was set to be named Zion. She suffered a ruptured uterus and doctors could not save the boy.
The couple was married in August 2025 and Symeon Izaguirre just started a new job. They were excited to be new parents.
“Everything was coming together for our kid,” he told the TV station. “It seems like at the peak of everything, it kind of all fell apart.”
His wife, who remains in the hospital, said: “I was about six months, and we started to get a feel of their personality, and we were feeling kicks and everything, and it was really nice.”
A GoFundMe showed the injuries suffered by both victims as well as the damage to their car.
“We are grateful for every prayer, message, and act of support during this difficult time,” the couple wrote.
Cops arrested Lupas this week. His next court date was not immediately listed.
