A Maryland woman who had recently moved into a new apartment was shot and killed after she spotted her estranged boyfriend, tried to run, and was allegedly pursued before the suspect walked away, authorities said.

Amir Johnson, 26, has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 27-year-old Shakeia Allen, according to Baltimore County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Johnson also faces a charge of using a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence.

Johnson and Allen had been in a relationship for years, but their history included multiple reported domestic violence incidents, according to records reviewed by local CBS affiliate WJZ.

In August 2023, both Johnson and Allen sought protective orders against each other, but the cases were later dropped after neither of them appeared in court.

By February 2024, the couple had reportedly been arguing for several days before the dispute allegedly became physical. Johnson was subsequently charged with assault.

On April 21, 2024, Allen was at an apartment inside the ReNew Apartment Complex in Baltimore County, the Baltimore County Police Department said.

The mother of a young child had only been living at the complex a few days, and she apparently moved “to get away from that man,” a neighbor, Dawn Beddis, told the area outlet.

Surveillance video allegedly showed Johnson at the apartment complex, chasing Allen through the parking lot on the day in question.

“Get away from me!” she screamed.

“Leave her alone!” a witness can be heard yelling.

Johnson allegedly then shot her multiple times from close range.

“When I saw the video, and I saw how cold, you know, he was when he was shooting her, and walks away like, ‘Hey, just another day,’ it’s frightening,” Beddis added to WJZ.

Police said this week that a grand jury indicted Amir Johnson for the shooting, which occurred “in the parking lot of Allen’s Nottingham apartment building and was recorded by an onlooker.”

Johnson was reportedly arrested in Maine on unrelated domestic violence charges, which were dropped once he was booked in jail in Maryland.
