Jim Geoghan, the producer and writer who co-created Disney Channel’s beloved sitcom The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, has died at 79 after living with dementia.
Geoghan died in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 6, his daughter Genevieve confirmed to TMZ on Tuesday.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody became one of Disney Channel’s signature mid-2000s hits, airing 87 episodes from 2005 to 2008 and helping spotlight a cast of young stars.
Created by Geoghan alongside Danny Kallis, the series starred Dylan and Cole Sprouse, Brenda Song and Ashley Tisdale.
During its run, the show earned three Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Children’s Program in both 2007 and 2008, as well as Outstanding Choreography in 2006.

The franchise later continued with the spinoff The Suite Life on Deck, which aired 71 episodes from 2008 to 2011.
Geoghan also penned the 2011 Disney Channel film The Suite Life Movie.
He worked from 1991 to 1998 on the popular ABC series Family Matters, as a writer, producer and co-executive producer.
Geoghan was also an experienced TV writer, penning scripts for 1980s shows including Kate & Allie, Silver Spoons, The Facts of Life, The Van Dyke Show, Mama’s Family, Too Close for Comfort and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.
Also a playwright, Geoghan wrote the play Only Kidding, which had 500 performances at off-Broadway venues, according to Variety.
He also penned the play Light Sensitive, which debuted at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater and had more than 40 productions.
Geoghan established himself in the world of comedy in the three-member New York comedy troupe Divided We Stand, according to the outlet.
The group performed on college campuses and at notable Gotham clubs such as Catch A Rising Star and The Bitter End.
It opened shows for legendary entertainers including The Beach Boys, The Commodores, The Temptations and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, among others.

The late creative was warmly remembered by a number of users on X as news of his passing spread on Tuesday
Geoghan subsequently relocated to Los Angeles with spouse Annie Gagen as TV writing opportunities opened up.
His hobbies included photography and crafts such as model boats and planes, according to the outlet, and he ‘was known for his joyous personality, kindness and humor.’

One user pointed out Geoghan’s professional exploits, saying ‘people forget he spent 30 years mastering multi-camera comedy from 1970s NYC stand-up to writing on Family Matters before ever pitching Disney Channel.
‘He brought real, old-school stage timing to a kids show, which is exactly why the physical comedy in the Tipton Hotel hit so hard. Now, we are all wondering whether Zack & Cody was the golden peak of Disney Channel sitcoms or the start of the studio-gimmick era.’

Geoghan is survived by his wife and daughter.
