At least three people were killed and another was taken to a hospital after a helicopter believed to be affiliated with a news organization crashed Tuesday evening in Los Angeles, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said 56 firefighters responded shortly before 7 p.m. to the crash site between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth.
LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman said the aircraft appeared to be a news helicopter, though officials had not identified the organization it may have been operating for.
Four people were evaluated at the scene. Three were pronounced dead, while the fourth was transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, the fire department reported.
Silverman said one of those killed was a pedestrian in the parking lot. Authorities had not determined whether the remaining victims were inside the helicopter or on the ground.
The crash also ignited a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers, according to LAFD. Firefighters put out the flames, and nearby buildings were not threatened.
Officials had not yet released the number of people who were aboard the helicopter.
