President Trump reportedly invited left-leaning New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to the White House after their Monday meeting at Gracie Mansion, suggesting the mayor come “see how I work,” according to lip reader Jeremy Freeman.
Trump also appeared to assure Mamdani that he would offer his support, Freeman told The Post. “What I will say, we’ll look after you, but as I say, you’re doing great,” the president reportedly said.
“I’ll look after you, you look after the New Yorkers,” Trump continued, according to the lip reader. “And we can both make it work. I wanna support you, help me. Come with me to the White House — see how I work.”
The roughly 90-minute discussion centered on immigration and a housing development in Queens for which Mamdani is seeking federal assistance. Trump also reminisced about his time at Gracie Mansion.
The meeting highlighted the unlikely rapport between the socialist mayor and the conservative Republican president. Their relationship began to warm after a February gathering at the White House, where Trump told reporters, “I think he’s a nice guy.”
Mamdani later described that earlier encounter as “a productive meeting.”
After Monday’s reunion in New York City, Trump once again offered public praise for the mayor.
Speaking to Mamdani in front of reporters, Trump said he had seen the records of “numerous different mayors,” including “some great ones and some not so great ones.”
“So, hopefully you’re going to be a great one,” Trump said. “I’ll be able to say you’re going to be a great one, and you’re off to a good start.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
