NEWBERRY, Fla. – Alexander Gareth Gordon, 53, was arrested yesterday on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of crashes after allegedly striking two parked vehicles.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on October 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Woodyard Grill at 102 NW 250th Street. The owner of a silver Nissan told the deputy that a black Lexus SUV had backed into the Nissan and then left the parking lot, traveling south on NW 250th Street.
As the deputy was heading to Gordon’s residence, another report came in involving a black Lexus SUV. The vehicle had allegedly struck a parked car at Publix, located at 24100 W. Newberry Road.
The two callers reportedly said the Lexus driver smelled of alcohol. Both vehicles were parked and unoccupied, and no injuries were reported, although each vehicle sustained damage.
The deputy located Gordon outside his home and reported seeing him exit the black Lexus SUV. According to the deputy, the Lexus was “oddly parked” in the driveway, nearly touching the garage door. The deputy activated his emergency lights, briefly sounded the siren and ordered Gordon to walk to the front of the patrol vehicle. Gordon allegedly responded, “F*** you!” before walking away. When the deputy attempted to stop him, Gordon allegedly tried to pull free.

The deputy said Gordon’s speech was slurred and that he appeared unsteady on his feet. After being read his Miranda rights, Gordon reportedly declined to provide a breath, urine or blood sample. He also refused testing again after arriving at the jail.
Gordon faces two counts of DUI with property damage, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, resisting an officer without violence and DUI with refusal to submit to testing. He has two prior misdemeanor convictions, including one involving violence. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $60,000 and ordered Gordon to wear a transdermal alcohol monitor as a condition of release.
