WASHINGTON — President Trump said his administration is engaged in “productive discussions” with Iran and declared that the United States will not resume military strikes against the Islamic Republic before the midterm elections.
“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote Thursday in a post on Truth Social.
He said Iran remains in “very bad condition,” both economically and militarily, while the U.S. blockade continues. Trump also pointed to what he described as record oil shipments moving through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that “we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections.”

Trump’s pledge not to restart attacks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections follows an Atlantic report alleging that he had been weighing possible strikes before Americans vote on control of Congress.
Speculation has circulated for months that the president could consider renewed military action against Iran once the midterm elections are over.
In the same Truth Social message, Trump said the United States had received 22 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. He also reiterated his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
