Secretary of State Marco Rubio lashed out at reporters after an Our News Outlet exclusive disclosed a State Department Office of Inspector General investigation involving US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The Trump administration is under increasing pressure over the probe, which emerged alongside Wall Street Journal reporting about leaked text messages describing an alleged request for $100,000 to cover an American Express bill.
When reporters approached Rubio on a foreign tarmac, the visibly frustrated secretary of state declined to offer an immediate reaction to the growing wave of reports.
‘I’m not playing this game with you,’ Rubio responded. ‘I don’t even know what’s true or not true.’
He continued his sharp rebuttal, telling reporters, ‘You guys somehow walk around thinking that because some source told you something and you reported it, it’s the gospel. It’s not the gospel. It’s not the gospel for me.’
As journalists continued questioning him during the diplomatic trip, Rubio elaborated on his objections to the line of questioning.
‘I know the game,’ Rubio said, arguing that the questioning was ‘not the way this process works.’
‘Our job is not to respond every time someone decides to give the media something without any advance warning, without having any chance to look at it and see what’s in there. So I’m not going to comment on a story that literally posted a few hours ago,’ he added.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio snapped at reporters after being confronted abroad with a barrage of negative headlines, following an Our News Outlet exclusive reporting a State Department Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigation into US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle

In Washington, Vice President JD Vance faced similar questions from CBS News Senior White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs about allegations that a US ambassador sought personal debt payments in exchange for access to a government official.

‘Obviously I don’t love that,’ Vance acknowledged.
Vance struck a cautious note, saying he would not confirm the allegations before the facts had been fully reviewed.
‘What I find with these stories is that you never want to comment in a purely abstract way because a lot of times the details really matter, and the details and the context inform the reality of the situation,’ Vance said. ‘So of course, I don’t like anybody selling access to another government official, certainly a high-level government official.’
Vance also stressed that the surrounding circumstances would be important in evaluating the claims.
‘I’d like to get the full story before offering a real opinion. A good lesson for a politician is never speak about something you don’t have the full facts,’ Vance concluded.
Five sources told Our News Outlet that the State Department Office of Inspector General has opened a formal investigation into Guilfoyle, 57, and the US Embassy in Athens.
According to three sources, investigators are examining allegations involving Guilfoyle’s potential substance abuse, use of private planes and helicopters, close ties to an energy and construction company, improper acceptance of gifts and other matters.
The investigation follows extensive Our News Outlet reporting on Guilfoyle’s lavish lifestyle, including luxury air travel, parties attended by Greek billionaires and pop stars, a private photographer, demands for champagne, an unpaid restaurant bill, home additions and close connections to energy lobbyist Christos Marafatsos.
The official IG probe was launched after internal complaints within the US Embassy escalated to a breaking point, sources in Greece tell Our News Outlet.
Guilfoyle’s lawyer Jesse Binnall declined to comment on the probe when asked prior, telling Our News Outlet that the ambassador won’t comment on ‘internal matters’ as a ‘standard policy.’
‘Any implication of wrongdoing by the Ambassador is unsupported,’ he added and referred Our News Outlet to the State Department OIG.
