WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has warned the Houthis against carrying out additional deadly attacks on Saudi Arabia, while indicating that he could seek Turkey’s assistance in confronting the Iran-backed group.
Asked whether he might request Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s help in striking the Houthis, Trump told a reporter, “I might do it.”
Trump said Tuesday that he has “a lot of respect” for Erdoğan and added, “President Erdogan, I think, would do as I ask.”
Two days earlier, Trump said the United States was considering retaliatory strikes against the Houthis after the Yemen-based terror group attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The assault killed 12 people, including one American citizen.
More than 300 people were injured in the attack.
