Family sues Anheuser-Busch over fatal stabbing at Jacksonville brewery

Family Sues Anheuser-Busch Over Fatal Jacksonville Brewery Stabbing

Antoine Autry was fatally stabbed at an Anheuser-Busch brewery on his first day of work. Now, his family is suing the company, claiming inadequate security played a role in his death.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Almost a year after 22-year-old Antoine Autry was killed at an Anheuser-Busch brewery in Jacksonville, his family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging the company failed to provide proper security.

The lawsuit was filed Oct. 1, 2026.

According to the complaint, Anheuser-Busch failed to reasonably inspect, monitor or control people entering the facility who may have been carrying knives or other weapons. The family also alleges the company did not maintain enough security personnel to respond to dangerous situations.

The lawsuit further claims Autry did not receive emergency medical assistance quickly enough.

Brian Moore, an attorney with Morgan & Morgan who represents Autry’s family, said the lawsuit seeks to determine what led to the stabbing and whether it could have been prevented.

Autry was killed Oct. 30, 2025, at the Anheuser-Busch facility on Busch Drive in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Autry and Jason Guthrie were contractors who were working their first day at the plant.

JSO said officers arrived at the facility at about 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. They found Autry suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He later died at a hospital.

Guthrie was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty.

The wrongful death lawsuit is a civil proceeding separate from the criminal case against Guthrie.

“The family still doesn’t know how this even could have happened,” Moore said. “So they first want to know how this happened, what could have been done to prevent this, so that this does not happen to anybody else.”

Moore said the lawsuit remains in its early stages and that Anheuser-Busch has not yet responded.

“Typically, what happens next is Anheuser-Busch will answer the complaint. Then the parties will engage in a months-long discovery phase in which we will seek to uncover new evidence through written discovery and oral discovery for the taking of depositions,” Moore said.

Moore said Autry’s family is also seeking changes that could help prevent a similar incident from happening to another worker.

“Antoine Autry did not know Guthrie. He was there on his first day on the job. He was trying to do right by himself and his family to have this job, and for somebody to do this to him with no altercation or thing being done by Mr. Autry to cause this from happening is what is so shocking and disgusting about what happened to him,” Moore said.

He said Autry’s family continues to mourn the loss of the 22-year-old, whom Moore described as optimistic about his new job.

First Coast News contacted Anheuser-Busch for comment on the lawsuit but had not received a response at the time of publication.
