Fire crews moved quickly to contain a brush fire in Brentwood early Wednesday as Southern California prepared for Santa Ana winds expected to heighten wildfire danger across the region.
The fire was reported at approximately 2:50 a.m. near Vandergrift Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Ground teams and aircraft battled the flames, keeping the fire from growing beyond roughly 1.5 acres. Firefighters stopped its advance within about an hour.
Meanwhile, Southern California is preparing for another surge of extreme heat and powerful Santa Ana winds. A Red Flag Warning has been issued as fire conditions become increasingly hazardous.
Wind gusts may reach 40 to 70 mph in locations known for strong winds. Forecasters expect conditions to deteriorate Thursday, with the strongest gusts anticipated Friday.

Thousands of Malibu residents could lose electricity as soon as Thursday while Southern California Edison prepares for the dangerous weather.
City officials said Tuesday that Edison is weighing power shutoffs on four circuits serving Malibu — Cuthbert, Galahad, Maguire and Merlin — beginning at midnight on Oct. 15.
The action, called a Public Safety Power Shutoff, is intended to lower the risk that electrical equipment could ignite wildfires during periods of extreme fire danger.
