Rep. Ilhan Omar's phone seized by feds during DHS raid tied to potential immigration fraud

Federal agents took possession of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s cell phone during a Monday search of her Washington, D.C., residence, as part of a criminal investigation into possible fraud involving her immigration records.

The raid has brought renewed attention to Omar’s immigration history. Investigators have reportedly issued more than a dozen subpoenas to members of her family in connection with the case.

Authorities are examining whether Omar’s family provided inaccurate information about her age when she came to the United States in 1995. Omar became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000.

At the center of the inquiry is a question over whether the birth date listed on her immigration application matched her actual date of birth.

Reports have identified Omar as 17 when she obtained citizenship, a circumstance that could have allowed her to gain citizenship automatically through her father’s naturalization.

The issue resurfaced after Omar’s congressional office contacted a Minnesota public library several months after she entered Congress, seeking to change the birth year listed in historical records from 1981 to 1982.

Her husband, Tim Mynett, voiced confidence in Omar when questioned about the federal investigation.

“My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee,” Mynett told Fox News Digital this week. “No concerns.”

Investigators are also reviewing documents filed by Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, as part of his application to enter the United States. The inquiry includes whether those forms contained false or misleading statements.

Omar has rejected the allegations, denying wrongdoing and accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to target its political opponents.

“For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,” her office said in a statement. “Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong.

“No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”

Separately, officials are reviewing Omar’s federal financial disclosures. Authorities emphasized that the financial disclosure matter is separate from the investigation that led to the search of her home.

Fox News Digital has contacted Omar’s office for comment.
