Cornell University investigation: Accused student asks for gag order

Cornell University’s faculty senate is set to begin debating a no-confidence resolution Wednesday, accusing the administration of failing to adequately address sexual violence on campus.

The move comes one month after allegations of a “gang rape” at a campus fraternity rattled the Ivy League university. If approved, the resolution would represent the strongest rebuke yet of Cornell’s leadership over its handling of the controversy.

“We’re saying we have no confidence in how the administration has handled this,” faculty senator Iris Packman told ABC News. “It is a crisis. It’s a long-term systemic problem. Jane Doe’s case is significant, but it is not nearly the only case like this.”

Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff and Provost Kavita Bala are expected to address the faculty senate and answer questions before debate begins. A formal vote on the measure is scheduled for later this month.

“What we are wanting is real effective leadership, not just reactive responses by the central administration,” said Professor Risa Lieberwitz, a member of the faculty senate.

What does the resolution call for?
