A 34-year-old New York man was fatally shot in the chest following an apparent dispute inside a Midtown subway station Saturday afternoon.
The shooting was reported at approximately 12:20 p.m. inside the 7th Avenue station near 53rd Street, according to the New York City Police Department.
“The suspect displayed a firearm and discharged it, striking the victim once in the chest,” an NYPD spokesperson told Our News Outlet.
After the shooting, the suspect ran from the station and headed north along 7th Avenue.
First responders performed CPR on the platform as the victim went into cardiac arrest.
Emergency medical personnel transported him to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet released the victim’s identity. The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been announced.

The NYPD said the suspect was last seen wearing a red tracksuit, black vest and black face mask while carrying a backpack.
Authorities described the wanted individual as a man who was last seen dressed in a red tracksuit, black vest and black face mask. He was also carrying a backpack, police said.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chief Security Officer Michael Kemp said the MTA is working with the NYPD to obtain video footage from the platform and subway cars in an effort to identify and locate the suspect.
“Guns have no place in transit, which is why we’ve strongly supported New York State’s legal fight to make sure it’s illegal to carry them in the subway system. This was evidently a dispute between two individuals that ended tragically,” Kemp said.
“The perpetrators will be caught and should face maximum consequences from the justice system. It is fortunate nobody outside the fight was hurt,” he added.
Mauricio Marroquin, a Queens resident, told the New York Post that he saw several people flee the station as he left his morning work shift.
“Everybody was running. I seen a gentleman laying right in front. He was dressed in a blazer, looked like he was coming from work or something, bro. Going to work or coming from work,” Marroquin told the outlet.
He said the confrontation and shooting unfolded within seconds, directly in front of him.
“It was two shots, man. He only got hit with one, like, that’s weird. And they were eight seconds apart, man,” Marroquin said.

The NYPD said shots were fired inside the 7th Avenue station near 53rd Street at about 12:20 p.m.

‘Another gentleman was just talking to him, like, “Hey, man, wake up, wake up, stay up, stay up, stay up”‘ Marroquin said.
‘Due to police activity, expect road closures, traffic delays, mass transit disruptions and a heavy presence of emergency personnel in the area of 7th Avenue and West 53rd Street in Manhattan. Use alternate routes to avoid the area and allow for additional travel time,’ the NYCEM wrote in an emergency notification.
Earlier this October, the NYPD announced: ‘major crimes across the city’s vast transit system is up slightly so far this year, up 0.9% (1,628 vs. 1,613), an increase of 15 crimes compared to 2025 and up 3% (519 vs. 504) in the third quarter.’
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch spoke alongside Mayor Zohran Mamdani as they shared updates on the 2026 quarterly crime statistics.
They explained that felony assaults and nonviolent grand larcenies have driven up the transit crime rates throughout the year.
The NYPD has urged anyone with information regarding this shooting incident to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online to their website.
