In Kentucky midterm campaign stop, Trump says he

President Trump emphasized what he described as his expanded influence during his second White House term Saturday, addressing a Kentucky rally aimed at energizing Republican voters as the party confronts a difficult midterm environment. “I can do stuff that is unbelievable,” he told the crowd.

Speaking in Highland Heights on behalf of Republican contenders, including Ed Gallrein in the race for the U.S. House, Trump pointed to his effort to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America as an example of his authority.

Trump said he did not believe he could have made such a move during his first presidency. “This is a much more powerful term,” he said, claiming that companies such as Google would have ignored him years ago but now treat him with far greater deference.

He then cited another alleged renaming, saying he had changed the name of a Canadian lake to “Lake America” — a reference to Lake Ontario.

Trump’s portrayal of himself as a forceful leader comes as many voters express growing unease over how he has used presidential power. Tariffs and the Iran war have contributed to higher prices, while more Americans say they view him as focused on personal interests rather than the broader needs of the country.

Control of both chambers of Congress on the line, Trump has made himself central to the Republican campaign. A Democratic takeover could open the door to investigations of his administration, even as some Republicans privately fear his presence on the ballot may hurt the party’s chances.

During his time in office, Trump has nominated a personal attorney as attorney general, authorized military strikes against boats accused of transporting drugs, pursued plans to place his name on the Kennedy Center, and enriched himself and members of his family, according to the article.

Trump moved between subjects during the Kentucky appearance, including the cost of gasoline. He again predicted that the conflict with Iran — now approaching eight months — would soon end and said fuel prices would fall below previous levels. The audience responded with cheers.

He also repeated a controversial pledge that Republicans would provide every adult American with $5,000 if the party captures both the House and Senate. The proposal would likely exceed $1 trillion, require approval from Congress and add pressure to a federal budget deficit already nearing $1.8 trillion annually.

Trump introduced an additional Kentucky-specific promise at Saturday’s rally. Should Republicans prevail, he said, the Department of Defense would help fund efforts to revive a drug manufacturing plant in the state.
