Mauricio Tapia, the frontman of Southern California indie band Los Retros, has been charged with alleged unlawful acts involving a child just days before the group was scheduled to perform in Los Angeles.
Tapia, 26, an Oxnard native, faces four felony counts of unlawful acts with a child under 10, according to charges filed Monday in Ventura County Superior Court.
Prosecutors have also filed several special allegations, claiming the alleged victim was especially vulnerable and that Tapia used a position of trust to commit the offenses.
The arrest came shortly before Los Retros was due to appear Friday at the Stones Throw 30 music festival in Los Angeles. The band, which performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April, was removed from the lineup because of what organizers called “unforeseen circumstances.”
Los Retros had built a substantial online following, attracting more than 2.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Its most-streamed track, “Someone to Spend Time With,” has surpassed 271 million plays.

Tapia has not entered a plea. His bail was set at $3 million.
Stones Throw Records, the band’s label, said earlier this week that it was ending its relationship with Los Retros.
“Yesterday we learned of extremely serious and disturbing allegations against Mauri Tapia, professionally known as Los Retros,” the label said in a statement.
The company said it had announced the cancellation of Tapia’s Stones Throw 30 performance before learning about the allegations. “In light of this information, we are taking steps to disassociate ourselves from Tapia and his work,” the statement said. “We take these allegations extremely seriously and will continue to assess the situation as more information becomes available.”
Tapia founded Los Retros in 2016. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22.
