His segment was dead in the water!
A Spanish television reporter was warning viewers about dangerous seas during a live broadcast Thursday when a powerful sneaker wave suddenly swept him off his feet. The unexpected moment left his anchor staring in stunned disbelief, footage shows.
Sergio Ovejero, a reporter for local station ETB2, was covering the risks of standing too close to sea walls in the coastal town of Ondarroa when the wave crashed over the barrier, according to Britain’s Channel 5 News.
“All eyes are now on the sea as the predictions tell us it’s gonna get worse as hours go by,” Ovejero said in Spanish, according to a translation, while standing on a path beside the sea wall.
“[There’s a] warning about the pavement and being near sea walls like this one we are at the moment, since there is a risk —” he continued, just before a huge wave surged over the wall and drowned out the rest of his sentence.

The wave engulfed Ovejero and the camera operator, Raquel, abruptly cutting the live feed and filling the screen with turbulent gray water.
When the broadcast switched back to anchor Odei Esnaola, his jaw was hanging open in a stunned, GIF-worthy expression of disbelief.
After a brief pause, Esnaola said, “Let’s hope our coworkers Sergio and Raquel are okay. We will update their situation in a second. Let’s see on the map what Ovejero was telling us about.”
The network later confirmed that the reporter and camera operator escaped without serious injuries, according to Channel 5.
“Man, it sucks for him but what a f–king perfectly timed wave lmao,” one Reddit user wrote. “Warning about the risk just to be proven right immediately.”
