A Florida woman allegedly asked to borrow a lighter before setting a man on fire Saturday, leaving him with severe burns across most of his body, police said.
Tanisha Shelton, 45, had reportedly been involved in a heated argument with Nathaniel Devon Mathis, 33, several hours before the alleged attack, according to a police report obtained by CBS.
The dispute ended when Shelton left the area, but she allegedly threatened to return with someone to assault Mathis, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
Police said Shelton came back hours later carrying a bucket with a plastic bag containing an accelerant.
She allegedly asked a witness for a lighter, then poured the accelerant over Mathis and set him on fire, authorities said.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of Northwest 63rd Street and Northwest 25th Avenue at about 6 p.m. They found Mathis unconscious and suffering from extensive burns, according to officials.
Medical staff at Jackson Memorial Hospital determined that Mathis had second- and third-degree burns covering 80% of his body. He remained in critical condition and was not expected to survive, officials said.
As Shelton allegedly tried to leave the scene, one witness used pepper spray against her, police said.
Other witnesses provided identification information that helped investigators locate Shelton and take her into custody, according to the police report.
Shelton was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of attempted murder and arson, jail records showed.
Information about an attorney representing Shelton was not immediately available.
