Canadian real-estate executive David Morton described the “horrific” ordeal Friday after masked robbers stormed his Toronto mansion and attacked him, his wife and their two daughters with guns and a hammer.
Morton, 75, lives with his family in the same upscale neighborhood as rapper Drake. Police said he was shot and struck with a hammer during Thursday’s home invasion, while his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, were also wounded. His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, 64, was hit with the hammer.
The family members were injured as they confronted the intruders at about 3:40 a.m. inside their mansion in Toronto’s affluent Bridle Path neighborhood, police said.
“It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home,” Morton said in a statement provided to The Post.
“No family should ever have to experience this,” he added. “People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.”
Morton and his daughters, who are both in their 20s, were injured as they “tried to fight off” three men wearing hoodies and ski masks, while Doriana was also struck with the hammer, a source told the Toronto Sun.
Morton and one daughter were shot in the leg, while the other daughter was shot beneath the arm, according to the outlet.
Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith said Thursday that two victims had suffered “life-altering injuries” and remained hospitalized. The other victims sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The suspects reportedly escaped from the neighborhood in an SUV, officials said.
After thanking friends, family members, police officers, paramedics and hospital staff, Morton said his family was “deeply concerned about the increasing violence associated with home invasions and the safety of families throughout Toronto.”

“We sincerely hope that the individuals responsible will be identified, apprehended and brought to justice,” he wrote.
“We encourage anyone with information that may assist the Toronto Police investigation to come forward.”
The Toronto Police Service released partial descriptions of the suspects Friday. All three men remain at large.
Investigators are searching for three men believed to be around 20 years old.
“Members of the Hold-Up Squad have commenced an investigation and are seeking to identify the suspects,” police said in a statement. “The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.”
According to the statement, the men forced their way into the six-bedroom home before going to the second floor and demanding personal valuables. A confrontation with the family followed, during which the suspects fired “multiple firearms.”
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow urged anyone with information or relevant video footage to contact investigators, saying, “Violence is not acceptable in our city.”
The MAC Group is a family-owned company specializing in real estate, executive corporate housing, global mobility and luxury villas in the Caribbean, according to its website.
Morton is the company’s CEO, while his wife serves as president. Their daughter Maggie is also listed as an employee, and their other daughter, Cristina, operates the immigration law firm Zohil-Morton Law.
