Bodycam shows aftermath of Florida bank shooting that left two dead

Disturbing bodycam video has captured the chaotic aftermath of a shooting at a Citibank campus in Tampa, Florida, where two people were killed.

Citi employees rushed out of the corporate complex as Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at around noon Wednesday.

In footage released by the sheriff’s office later that night, a shaken woman can be heard calling 911 and reporting that “somebody is shooting” inside the building.

The video then shows a deputy loading his weapon before sprinting toward the office as employees fled the area.

“What does he look like?” the deputy asked two women outside.

“We don’t know. We heard shooting from that way,” one woman replied while pointing toward the building.

Officers moved toward the entrance after discovering a crashed vehicle outside the campus.

As a deputy ran toward the doors, someone shouted, “He’s down,” apparently referring to the unidentified gunman who had fatally shot a woman before being stopped by an armed security guard.

A deputy entered the building and joined several people who appeared to be near where the shooting had taken place.

“Shooter is inside, shooter is down. Shooter is down,” an officer said over the radio.

The bodycam video also showed law enforcement escorting employees from the complex. Several workers raised their hands after officers instructed them to do so.

Workers were then guided to another location outside the building. Officials said approximately 3,200 people work at the campus.

Authorities have not established what connection, if any, existed between the suspect and the female victim.

Separate footage posted to social media after the shooting appeared to show a tall, bearded man leaving a gray sedan while carrying a rifle. He was wearing an unzipped sweatshirt that exposed his torso.

Police said the gunman was fatally shot by an armed security guard employed by Citi.

Four additional people suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Chief Deputy Frank Losat said at a Wednesday press conference.

“This is a sad day for everybody involved,” Losat said.

Sources told the New York Post that the suspect may have been a vendor rather than a Citi employee.

Dramatic photographs from the scene showed paramedics rushing stretchers toward the campus. One image showed a man secured to a gurney as he was taken away, while another showed a woman being transported from the property.

The sheriff’s department and a SWAT team searched and evacuated every room in the building, police said.

In all, 367 HCSO deputies responded, along with personnel from other “specialized units.”

Citi employees were told to gather at a nearby parking lot designated as a reunification site.

The shooter and an unidentified female worker died. Another four people were left with non-life-threatening injuries, Chief Deputy Frank Losat said during a press conference on Wednesday

A shelter-in-place order was also issued at nearby Hillsborough College while the response was underway.

Citi employs more than 10,000 people in Tampa, including workers at the 670,000-square-foot corporate center. The New York-based bank has operated from the campus since 1998.

The HCSO said in a statement to Our News Outlet that the investigation is still active.

“Additional details will be released as they become available,” the spokesperson said.
