A prominent TV network reporter, known for his bestselling book on the second Trump administration, is shedding light on the complex relationship between the former president and the media. The dynamic, which swings between adversarial and amicable, remains somewhat of an enigma.

Jonathan Karl, ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent and author of “Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America,” shared insights on the show “On Balance” this Thursday. He described his professional interactions with Trump as unpredictable and varied.

Karl recounted frequent phone conversations with Trump last year during his campaign for a second term. However, these exchanges took a turn when Trump criticized Karl on social media for his handling of an interview with a Republican senator.

Following this incident, when Trump threatened to withdraw from ABC’s debate with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Karl reached out via text to gauge Trump’s stance. Initially, there was no response.
