Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder has clinched the NBA MVP Award for the 2026-27 season, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.
This achievement makes Gilgeous-Alexander the 14th player in NBA history to secure the MVP title in consecutive seasons.
He follows in the footsteps of Nikola Jokic, who achieved consecutive MVP honors in 2021 and 2022, and is the first guard since Steph Curry, who won in 2015 and 2016, to do so.
The announcement of the award will be made official at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, with the ceremony broadcasted on Amazon Prime.
At 27 years old, Gilgeous-Alexander delivered an impressive performance this season, averaging 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds over 68 games.
He was the favored contender for the MVP title, standing out among the other finalists, Victor Wembanyama and Jokic.
He was the overwhelming betting favorite to win the award over the other two finalists, Victor Wembanyama and Jokic.
Gilgeous-Alexander will lead the top-seeded and defending NBA champion Thunder against Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals beginning Monday night in Oklahoma City.
