Arsenal reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in 14 years after beating Porto on penalties.

The Gunners were taken to the competition’s first shootout since the 2016 Champions League final, after matching Porto’s 1-0 victory from the first-leg.

Mikel Arteta’s side made no mistakes from the spot, while David Raya made saves from Wendell and Galeno.

Mail Sport’s Isaan Khan gives his verdict on how Arsenal’s players performed during the second-leg of their Round of 16 tie.

DAVID RAYA: 7

Air of calmness between the sticks. Good save to parry out Evanilson’s first-half strike. This felt crucial.

BEN WHITE: 6.5

Carried on from where he left off against Brentford, making in-roads down that right flank. Occupied much space in midfield.

WILLIAM SALIBA: 6 (BOOKED)

Not to his usual high standards. Looked shaky on the ball which gave Porto confidence.

GABRIEL: 6

Got away with some meaty challenges. Was very much up for this but very close to the line occasionally.

JAKUB KIWIOR: 6.5

Has really come along in recent weeks. Stood up when needed in defence. Could have done more in attack.

MARTIN ODEGAARD: 8.5

Quality personified. Set the tone with his closing down early on. Good through ball to assist Leandro Trossard’s goal. Had a goal disallowed in second half.

DECLAN RICE: 7.5

Enjoyed that more forward role that playing with Jorginho affords him. Threatened from crosses and set-pieces. Solid in the middle.

JORGINHO: 6.5

Put in a shift but looked leggy by the end. Should have been replaced before the end to freshen up the midfield.

BUKAYO SAKA: 7

Caused the opposition nightmares in the first half. The warning sign was there after 13 minutes, Saka’s run taking out multiple defenders and nearly ending with a goal. Dropped off in second period.

KAI HAVERTZ: 6.5

Held the ball up well at times. Will have wanted to have had more impact going forward, though. Adjudged to have fouled in build up to the disallowed Odegaard goal. Passion spilled over as he shoved Porto manager Sergio Conceicao in extra time.

LEANDRO TROSSARD: 7.5

Well-composed in front of goal to score. His pace worried the opposition backline, which caused them to back off at times.

MANAGER: MIKEL ARTETA 6

Was booked in the second half after the disallowed goal. Could possibly have brought on Gabriel Jesus earlier to change things up.

SUBSTITUTES

GABRIEL JESUS: 6.5

Added impetus up front but should have scored mere minutes after coming on with a great chance in the box. Arguably should have been on the pitch earlier, too.

EDDIE NKETIAH: 6

A quiet cameo. Possibly deployed with the penalty shootout in mind.

OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO: 6.5

Gave space at the back but played some nice passes in attack.
