Staff report from Gainesville Police Department social media post

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Daniel R. Shaffer, 43, was arrested in Gainesville yesterday on a New York warrant for sexual battery of a child.

Yesterday afternoon, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were called to an incident involving three individuals trespassing at the pool of Garland Condominiums, located at 951 NW 21st Avenue. It was noted by the officers that one of the men provided a false name and struggled to spell it correctly, prompting them to request assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol for their Rapid ID system.

The individual was successfully identified as Shaffer, who had several active warrants, including one for capital sexual battery of a child in Newark Village, NY. He was then taken into custody and booked at the Alachua County Jail.
