An Indiana man, accused of killing his 6-year-old son, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder. Franklin Elmore Jr., 29, confessed to the crime earlier this month and is now awaiting sentencing, which is set for November 25, as reported by WNDU.

The tragic case, involving both Franklin and his wife, Cheyenne Elmore, 27, who was the boy’s stepmother, surfaced in August when they were charged with the murder of young Justin Elmore, according to CrimeOnline. On August 3, Justin was rushed to the hospital suffering from severe injuries. Franklin initially claimed these were self-inflicted due to behavioral issues, but medical professionals quickly determined otherwise. The boy had a brain bleed, a punctured lung, and numerous bruises, leading to suspicions of foul play.

Further investigations revealed damning evidence from surveillance footage in Justin’s designated playroom. The video captured Franklin Elmore physically assaulting his son shortly before the child’s death. Alarmingly, while Franklin paced the backyard with his hands on his head, Cheyenne, despite being present during the attack, did not intervene. Instead, she made the emergency call to 911.

During the plea hearing, Franklin admitted to “knowingly” causing his son’s death, although he claimed it was unintentional, according to WNDU. Meanwhile, Cheyenne Elmore has requested more time to prepare for her trial by reviewing mental health records. Consequently, her trial has been postponed to February 2, 2026, and she is expected to appear in court again on December 18.

At a plea hearing earlier this month, Elmore admitted that he “knowingly” killed his son but said he “did not mean it,” WNDU said.

Meanwhile, Cheyenne Elmore asked for a delay in her trial to give more time to review mental health records, and the judge reset the start date to February 2, 2026. She is due back in court again on December 18.
