Man arrested for murder after mother found dead at Hidden Hills home

Tragedy struck Jacksonville over the weekend when a woman was found dead in her home. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has charged Avery Garrison with second-degree murder following the discovery of his mother, 62-year-old Jacqueline Jones-Garrison, who was found strangled.

The grim discovery was made on the evening of Friday, January 30, when officers responded to a call about a possible battery at a residence on Bleinheim Place in the Hidden Hills area. Upon arrival around 8:05 p.m., police encountered 31-year-old Avery Garrison, who informed them that his mother required medical attention.

Inside the home, officers found Jones-Garrison unresponsive in a bedroom, which appeared to have been the scene of a struggle. Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead soon after authorities arrived. The investigation revealed that she had been strangled, leading to the swift identification of her son, Avery Garrison, as the primary suspect.

Garrison was apprehended the following morning and is currently being held in Duval County jail without the possibility of bond. As this heartbreaking case unfolds, the Jacksonville community is left reeling from the loss. In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences, saying, “Our hearts go out to Jones-Garrison’s family and friends at this time.”

Garrison was quickly identified as the suspect and arrested the next morning. He remained in the Duval County jail without bond on Monday.

“Our hearts go out to Jones-Garrison’s family and friends at this time,” the agency said in a social media post.
