Catherine Zeta-Jones channels Basic Instinct in NYCC appearance

Against that backdrop, his wife, Welsh actress Catherine Zeta–Jones, appeared ready to remind him—and everyone else—of her own star power and undeniable appeal.

During a Friday night appearance, the 57-year-old actress struck a playful, risqué pose that recalled one of cinema’s most talked-about moments: the scene in Basic Instinct where Sharon Stone’s character crosses her legs while Douglas’s detective struggles to maintain his concentration.

At New York Comic Con, Zeta–Jones wore a shimmering gold sequined dress that revealed an impressive glimpse of her toned thigh. She later joked on Instagram that she had shown off a “whole bunch of leg.”

Her appearance came shortly after Douglas, 82, detailed several past relationships in his memoir, including an affair with Kathleen Turner, his co-star in the 1984 adventure comedy Romancing The Stone.

Writing about Turner, he said: “Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship. It wasn't a fly–by–night affair; it grew naturally from how closely we were working together, how much pressure we were under, how much we respected and cared for one another, and how attracted we were to each other.”

Should celebrities speak so openly about past relationships, or should some aspects of their private lives remain off-limits?

Douglas also wrote about a brief relationship with his Basic Instinct co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn, who was almost 20 years younger than him, saying that he had “fallen very hard” for her.

He recalled that, while married to film producer Diandra Luker, she once chose not to spend the night with him during a Los Angeles trip. Douglas said he subsequently invited another woman to join him in bed.

When he started seeing Zeta–Jones in 1998, he said he needed to make “five quick phone calls” to end other relationships. The couple married in November 2000.

Zeta–Jones was visiting New York to promote her upcoming Amazon Prime Video thriller series, Kill Jackie.

She also gave her outfit a playful sci-fi twist, joking that the gold dress was “an homage to C–3PO,” the iconic robot from Star Wars.
