Lara Stone, 42, Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Lara Stone, the former wife of David Walliams, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is receiving treatment.

The 42-year-old Dutch supermodel, who was married to the 55-year-old comedian and author for five years and shares a son with him, described the diagnosis as a “huge shock”. She said she was also grateful the cancer had been discovered at an early stage.

Lara shared the news on Instagram on Saturday, using the post to encourage women to pay attention to changes in their bodies.

She wrote: “Since it’s still officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share that I have recently been diagnosed and am undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

“This has obviously been a huge shock, and I’m so grateful to have found it early.”

Explaining her decision to speak publicly about her health, the Victoria’s Secret model added: “I don’t often share my personal life online, but if this post will make just 1 person check their breasts, or make that appointment they’ve been putting off, it’s worth sharing. Please don’t ignore changes to your body.”

The model, who has appeared on Vogue covers and led major campaigns for Calvin Klein lingerie and Versace, did not disclose when she was diagnosed, which stage the cancer had reached or details of her treatment.

Her post quickly prompted messages of support from fellow figures in the fashion world.

Supermodel Karen Elson wrote: “Lara, sending you so much love and strength. We are here for you.”

M&S model Laura Bailey added: “Sending love x,” while casting director Rosie Vogel commented: “Sending so much love to you Lara. Thank you for posting and being willing to share!”

The diagnosis comes five years after Lara married her second husband, British property developer David Grievson, whom she met on dating app Tinder in 2018.

The couple announced their engagement in February 2020 before marrying in an intimate ceremony in July 2021. They welcomed their first child together, a son named Bob, in July 2023, making Lara a mother of two.

She is also mother to 13-year-old Alfred, whom she shares with her first husband, Little Britain co-creator David Walliams.

Lara and Walliams began dating in 2009, announced their engagement in January 2010 and married four months later at London’s Claridge’s hotel.

Their relationship made them one of Britain’s most recognisable celebrity couples. However, they separated in March 2015, when Alfred was still a toddler.

Lara has previously spoken openly about the challenges of their separation and the importance of preserving a positive relationship for their son.

Speaking about their approach to co-parenting, she said: “Sometimes really different people work together – but maybe not for ever. It’s awful getting divorced.”

She continued: “He’s the happiest kid – really happy to be home with me and really happy to be home with his dad, so what more could you ask for?”

In a separate interview with Dutch Vogue in 2022, Lara said the intense public attention surrounding her relationship with Walliams had been “bewildering and terrifying”.

Her health announcement comes during a turbulent period for her former husband, who was dropped by longtime publisher HarperCollins last December after allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards female employees.

The publisher said it would no longer release new books by Walliams, whose children’s titles have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide.

Last month, HarperCollins confirmed that it would also stop publishing his existing back catalogue, including bestsellers Gangsta Granny and The Boy in the Dress.

Walliams has strongly denied the allegations. His representative previously said he had not been informed of any complaints and had not been given an opportunity to respond.
