Here's The "Montecito" House That Was A Big Part Of The Most Recent "Hacks" (It's Actually In Malibu) | Celebrity Net Worth

A bit behind on my DVR, I finally caught up with the latest episode of “Hacks” last night. Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers here. Even if “Hacks” isn’t on your watchlist yet—though it absolutely should be—this piece is still for you if you’re a fan of breathtaking mansions.

The episode in question, from season 5, episode 7, features characters played by Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart (Ava Daniels and Deborah Vance) visiting the lavish abode of a rival comedian, portrayed by Cherry Jones, and her younger partner, played by Leslie Bibb.

After watching, curiosity got the better of me, and I fell into a 20-minute deep dive on Zillow, sifting through Montecito listings that matched the mansion’s description. I suspected the property might be newly listed, as such homes are often rented out for film productions.

Thanks to a helpful tip I stumbled upon in a Reddit comment, I discovered the house is actually located in Malibu. With that vital piece of information, I pinpointed the property within minutes. Here’s what I found:

The estate covers a sprawling 1.3 acres and was originally built in 1972. It boasts over 7,000 square feet of living space, complete with five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Current owners Steve and Vanessa Alexander have impressive credentials—Vanessa is an interior designer featured in top-tier publications like Architectural Digest, while Steve is a producer and talent manager, having represented stars such as Heath Ledger, Jeff Bridges, John Travolta, Josh Hartnett, and Natalie Portman.

In June 2017, the Alexanders purchased the property for $5.2 million and embarked on an extensive multi-year renovation. They initially listed the home for $28 million in July 2024, lowering the price several times to $22 million before eventually withdrawing it from the market last October. For a more in-depth look, Vanessa offers an 18-minute video tour of the property from August 2024:

Steve and Vanessa paid $5.2 million for the property in June 2017 and then proceeded to perform a multi-year full renovation. They listed the property in July 2024 for $28 million, dropped the price a few times, down to a low of $22 million, before taking it off the market last October. Here is a more thorough (18-minute) video tour given by Vanessa personally back in August 2024:

I would say more, but I’m actually late for a haircut appointment, so that’s all! Enjoy the house tours and watch Hacks!
