Inset: Olajuwon Dickerson (Miami Dade Corrections). Background: The area in Miami Beach where Olajuwon Dickerson allegedly stabbed his friend after the victim confronted Dickerson for stealing away women that they met at bars (Google Maps).
A Florida bachelor party took a violent turn when a man allegedly stabbed his friend following a dispute over attention from women at Miami Beach bars, authorities report.
Olajuwon Dickerson, a 32-year-old from Massachusetts, faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking his friend during a night out with two other companions. This information comes from an arrest affidavit acquired by Law&Crime.
The situation escalated when the victim, acting in self-defense, also stabbed Dickerson. Dickerson subsequently appeared in court from his hospital bed. This update was shared by local TV station WPLG.
According to the affidavit, Dickerson and the victim were in Miami Beach for a bachelor party and were sharing an Airbnb in Miami Gardens. Witnesses recounted that the group met women at bars on Ocean Drive, but tensions rose when the women seemed to focus their attention solely on Dickerson.
After leaving the bars, an argument erupted when the women joined Dickerson and another man in a car. The victim, feeling sidelined, confronted Dickerson. The heated exchange continued as Dickerson approached the victim, who was in a separate vehicle, escalating the situation further, according to the affidavit.
“The defendant approached and demanded he exit the vehicle,” the affidavit states, referencing witness accounts. “Witnesses observed that immediately after the confrontation, blood was visible, and the victim was bleeding from the abdomen.”
Police say the man told investigators that he “suddenly realized he had been stabbed with a knife and, in fear of being stabbed again, he began to defend himself” against Dickerson, who was stabbed in the arm.
“While witnesses were attempting to stop the bleeding on the defendant, [a witness] stated the defendant handed him a folding knife covered in blood,” according to the affidavit. “All parties stayed on the scene until police arrived.”
The knife that Dickerson allegedly used was located by cops, but he denied wielding it, according to police. He also “denied being in an altercation” with the victim, per the affidavit.
“The defendant stated [the men] left the bar, and he remembered nothing else,” according to police.
Dickerson has been ordered to have no more contact with the friend he allegedly stabbed. He is being held without bond.
