It took a jury only a few hours to convict a Georgia man of murdering his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day 2020.

“I’m not the person that you’re making me out to be. I’m not a monster. Because if I was a monster, she would have left me a long time ago,” DeMarcus Little said during his trial this week in Crawford County.

The jury, according to Channel 2 Action News, didn’t buy it.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Little manually strangled Anitra Gunn, 23, in Crawford County sometime between 2:30 a.m. and midnight on Valentine’s Day 2020. The Fort Valley State University student was reportedly last seen on February 14 at Little’s aunt’s home in Crawford County.

The following day, Gunn’s Chevy Cruze was discovered with its bumper missing a block from her apartment in Fort Valley. Police arrested Little, an Army sergeant at Fort Gordon, a few days later.

Little killed Gunn hours after he was arraigned on criminal damage to property charges for breaking Gunn’s apartment windows and slashing her tires on February 5, 2020. Despite this, Little insisted during his trial that Gunn was his soulmate.

“You slashed your soulmate’s tires? Broke your soulmate’s windows? Told her you tried to kill yourself and told her it was her fault?” prosecutor Dawn Baskin asked.

The victim’s godmother, who spoke at the trial, vowed to keep Gunn’s memory and name alive.

“The defendant’s decision to put his hands around Anitra Gunn’s neck and watch the life leave her body, and take the life of a human being with no regards for the effects it may have on others is unimaginable and very devastating,” said her godmother.

“The name of Anitra Gunn will not go away. We as a family will make sure of that.”

Little was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
