Brian Laundrie’s parents had been trying to get possession of a notebook found with his body — the same notebook that FBI now says included a confession about Gabby Petito’s murder

Amid new reports that Brian Laundrie acknowledged responsibility for his girlfriend Gabby Petito’s death in a journal left behind, an attorney for his parents says Roberta and Chris Laundrie won’t face any charges.

As CrimeOnline reported, the FBI said on Friday that Laundrie’s journal, found with his remains in a Florida nature preserve in October, contained statements tantamount to a confession.

“A review of the notebook revealed written statements by Mr Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms Petito’s death,” the FBI’s statement read in part.

Brian Laundrie is believed to have fatally shot himself sometime after he was last seen on September 13. The 23-year-old’s parents have come under scrutiny for apparent contradictions in what they told police about when they last saw their son, and for allegedly refusing to cooperate with Gabby Petito’s parents when her family was searching for her. Petito and Laundrie were on a cross-country road trip when Petito lost contact with her family in late August. Laundrie reportedly returned to the North Port, Florida, home where he and Petito had been living with his parents before the road trip on September 1, without his girlfriend. Petito’s parents have alleged that Chris and Roberta Laundrie ignored their attempts to find out where their daughter was.

An attorney representing Brian Laundrie’s parents told The Independent that he does not expect them to face any charges.

“To my knowledge there will be no charges,” Steven Bertolino reportedly said.

Laundrie’s parents had reportedly tried to get possession of the waterlogged notebook found near Laundrie’s body.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
