A disability support worker faces charges related to a deadly house fire in Sydney from nearly five years ago.
The fire erupted early on April 13, 2021, at a group home for individuals with disabilities located on River Avenue in Carramar, a suburb in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency responders managed to rescue two male residents from the burning home.
Sadly, one of the men, a 38-year-old, was found unresponsive. Despite the efforts of paramedics and firefighters on site, he could not be revived.
In response, police established Strike Force Andretta to delve into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
After thorough investigations, detectives arrested a 27-year-old man yesterday around 8:50 am, charging him with manslaughter.
Police will allege in court that the man was negligent in his role as a carer, leaving the residents unsupervised.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in court today.
