A cat-owning man shot his host multiples times after she complained about his ever-growing cadre of cats, according to deputies in Lee County, Florida. Glenn William White II, 59, is currently held at the local jail on a $25,000 bond for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Deputies responded Friday, March 8, to the home. They found the woman — identified as Autumn Amor in a report from Fort Myers NBC affiliate WBBH — suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They also described finding White.
The woman told them that White had been the person who shot her, so they immediately detained him while helping the victim, according to the arrest affidavit.
According to documents, a detective managed to speak to the woman, who was “awake, coherent,” at the hospital.
White was evicted from his home on Monday, March 4, and Amor let him stay at her place, documents said. Amor told the outlet he had been her neighbor.
White moved in with three cats, but every day, he had been bringing another home, authorities wrote. Eventually, he ended up with six cats total.
“The victim and White have been arguing for the past couple of days about the cats and how the victim would like the cats to live outside the house instead of inside the house,” authorities wrote. “On today’s date, the victim got tired of having all the cats inside the residence and told White she was going to place them outside in the lanai.”
Amor told WBBH that White was hiding the cats in the guest bedroom.
“He was here for four nights and there was six cats in the house and he was still going and getting more,” she said. “He was hiding them in the guest bedroom, but it stunk a high odor.”
According to the documents, Amors said that White let her go into his room to look for the two cats inside, but while she was doing that, White went into the bathroom outside his room. Then he allegedly turned around, stood in the bedroom door frame, and started shooting her.
“I am going to kill you, b—-,” White allegedly said as the woman pleaded with him to stop firing.
After striking her multiple times, he pointed the gun at her head, and said, “I am going to kill you,” according to documents. White only stopped shooting because he ran out of bullets, Amor reportedly said.
“The victim then begged him to call 911 and to allow her to call 911,” authorities wrote.
She tried to call 911, but White slapped her cell phone out of her hand, documents said.
“The victim sustained ten defects all over her body, seven of those on her lower extremities, two on her right rib, and one on her left middle finger,” documents stated.
Investigators said they found four 40mm casings in a bedroom, and a black and silver Smith & Wesson SD40 firearm.
The sheriff’s office redacted what White allegedly told them post-Miranda.
Amor reportedly cited the eviction as a contributing factor in the shooting.
“I feel like this played a big part in him snapping because he lived there for over 40 years,” she said. “I don’t feel like that gun was meant for me. I think he purchased that gun for the people who took his house. The lady who took his house. I just happened to be the one that he snapped on.”
She said he should be charged — there was no doubt in her mind that she would be dead if he had more bullets.
A hearing is scheduled for April 8.
