A 21-year-old college student and cheerleader from the University of Kentucky is accused of hiding her newborn inside her college apartment closet.
Laken Snelling has been taken into custody following the discovery of her deceased infant inside a trash bag within a closet. The autopsy report has not provided clear answers about the cause of death, leaving the case shrouded in uncertainty. Prior to this tragic event, Snelling had shared photos showing her pregnancy.
Authorities allege Snelling gave birth in secret, wrapped her baby in a towel, placed him in a trash bag, and left him in her closet.
According to the arrest report, Lexington police responded to a call at a Park Avenue residence regarding an unresponsive infant on Wednesday. Upon their arrival, they found the infant’s body in a closet, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black trash bag.
The University of Kentucky cheerleader now faces charges including abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth of a child. Court documents reveal that Snelling has been released on bond but is required to remain under house arrest at her parents’ home.
