Two men who led police on a chase have been charged after they were found hiding in barrels in an abandoned shed north of Brisbane.

A major emergency operation unfolded after police received reports of shots being fired from a black Commodore on the Bruce Highway at Murrumba Downs about 1.20pm yesterday.

The allegedly stolen car sped northbound, dangerously dodging cars and weaving through traffic.

The police helicopter was called in after the car allegedly evaded officers through several suburbs across Moreton Bay.

Police used tyre spikes to slow it down.

The pair inside the car allegedly dumped the vehicle and ran through a private property at Armstrong Creek, north-west of Brisbane.

The dog squad tracked the pair and found them inside two barrels in an abandoned shed.

The men, 26-year-olds Adam Slade and Tyger Titmarsh, were dragged out of hiding and charged with several serious driving offences.

Police searched the allegedly stolen car and did not find any guns.

9News understands the pair are accused of letting off a fire extinguisher and throwing a tyre out of the moving car. 

Their matters were briefly mentioned in court today, where it was heard Slade is still in hospital recovering after being bitten by one of the police dogs.

He is due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Titmarsh has had his case adjourned until September 18.
