Drunk Florida Man Plows Into 3rd-Grade Math Teacher and Baby, Killing Them: Police

A Florida resident is now facing serious legal consequences after a tragic incident where he allegedly drove under the influence, leading to the deaths of a beloved teacher and an infant.

Logan Fletcher Park, aged 24, has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter, as reported by The Florida Times Union. This follows the untimely deaths of Mitchell Patch, 34, and his one-year-old son, Everett. The charges come after the devastating event in May when Park reportedly hit the father and son with his Honda while they were attempting to cross Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville, at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Mitchell Patch, who was celebrated as Bayview Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year, and his young son were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries they sustained. The incident has left a profound impact on the local community, mourning the loss of a dedicated educator and his child.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Park was subsequently taken to a medical facility where a blood alcohol test indicated a level of .107. Notably, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit in Florida is 0.08, which underscores the severity of the situation.

In the wake of the investigation by law enforcement, First Coast News reports that Park surrendered to authorities on Sunday, marking a significant step forward in the legal proceedings of this heart-wrenching case.

First Coast News reports that Park turned himself in on Sunday, following an investigation by the sheriff’s office.

An obituary indicated that Patch graduated from Florida State College before spending 12 years as a math teacher at the school. He earned the Bayview Elementary Teacher of the Year award during the 2023/2024 school year.

Park is scheduled for a court hearing on December 3.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to assist Patch’s wife, Mary Allred, with funeral and related expenses.
