GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kaleb Alaye Singleton, 28, was arrested after police said he threatened to shoot three people following an argument involving his girlfriend at Arbor Park Apartments. According to police, the girlfriend told the alleged victims she planned to call her boyfriend and that he would “flip out.”
Gainesville Police Department officers were called at about 6:56 p.m. on June 20 to Arbor Park Apartments, located at 309 SW 16th Avenue. Witnesses told officers that a verbal dispute had escalated when Singleton’s girlfriend said, “I’m gonna call my man, and he’s gonna flip out.” Police said Singleton arrived soon afterward and allegedly produced an AR-style pistol. He and his girlfriend had already left the area before officers got to the scene.
Three alleged victims and four witnesses told police they saw Singleton point the firearm at the three victims, causing them to fear for their lives. One witness reportedly told officers she heard Singleton say he would “shoot up the place” while holding the gun.
On June 25, an officer spoke by phone with Singleton’s girlfriend, who reportedly confirmed that she had been arguing with the victims and witnesses and had called Singleton to come to the apartment complex. She said Singleton arrived shortly afterward and pulled out a gun, but she said no shots were fired.
The officer also interviewed Singleton by phone. Police said Singleton confirmed that his girlfriend had called him to Arbor Park because of the dispute. He reportedly said he had an AR-style pistol inside a backpack and removed it while he was at the complex, but he maintained that he kept the weapon pointed down at his side.
Investigators determined that Singleton’s alleged threat of deadly force was not justified, stating that “there were no present circumstances of imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of any forcible felony.”
Singleton has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records indicate he has one prior non-violent felony conviction. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set his bail at $450,000.
