According to the Gainesville Police Department’s account, an officer arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. on April 24, where an altercation between Newsome and the victim reportedly escalated inside their residence. In response, the victim is said to have pushed the cane back at Newsome, injuring his forehead.

Should the motion be denied, bail will be determined at the hearing.
