Georgia law enforcement is in search of an armed man who struck a police vehicle and during pursuit held an infant hostage before fleeing again.
The Hogansville Police Department reported that they responded to an incident in the 500 block of Lawrence Street on Saturday morning. The location had been the site of a previous day’s dispute involving possible gunfire, where officers discovered a fleeing individual, drugs, and a weapon.
On Saturday, the police came across Jarmmal Cox, 30, who reportedly struck a police car while escaping the scene. During the ensuing chase, Cox crashed his car near Dickinson Street and Green Avenue before fleeing on foot, with officers pursuing him.
With support from the LaGrange Police Department and a K-9 unit, officers tracked Cox to a residence on Lawrence Street. Authorities were informed that Cox might be armed and had taken an infant hostage inside the house. SWAT teams from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County Police Department were summoned to help ensure the child’s safety.
After hours of unsuccessful negotiations, SWAT breached the perimeter. Upon entering the residence, they found the infant unharmed, but Cox had escaped.
Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in locating Cox.
“Arrest warrants have been issued for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding. Additional charges are expected,” the release stated. Cox also has outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about Jarmmal Cox is encouraged to contact the Hogansville Police Department at 706-637-6648.
